Ultrasonic Water Treatment in Algae Removal

In recent years, many rivers and lakes in world have been severely polluted, and the problem of eutrophication of water bodies has become increasingly prominent. This not only seriously affects the living environment of surrounding residents, but also poses a significant threat to the ecological security of water environment. Due to the short growth cycle, fast reproduction rate, and significant harmful effects of algae, conventional algae removal techniques are costly, prone to secondary pollution, and difficult to effectively suppress algal outbreaks. Therefore, a new environmental protection technology - ultrasonic algae removal technology - has emerged.

Ultrasonic waves have the functions of degrading organic pollutants and removing and inhibiting algae. The main mechanism is that water produces a "cavitation effect" under the action of ultrasonic radiation. Water undergoes a series of dynamic cycles such as alternating oscillation, expansion, compression, and collapse under this "cavitation effect", producing instantaneous and microscopic high temperatures (>5000K), high pressures (>5 × 107 Pa), and forming hotspots (Hotopot). After several microseconds, the hot spot instantly cools down, accompanied by strong shock waves and micro jets reaching 100m/s, creating a physical environment for organic matter and algae. Breaking the O-H bond of water to generate hydrogen peroxide opens up chemical reaction channels, increases the rate of chemical reactions, and degrades pollutants in water under high temperature, high pressure, and hydroxyl radicals. Ultrasonic waves have a pulse effect on water and a resonance effect on algae. Water emits specific frequency pulse sound waves into the water through a specially designed ultrasonic transducer that dives into the water.

Water is a good conductor of sound waves. These high-frequency waves propagate through water with minimal attenuation and can travel far. For example, a 220V/80W ultrasonic device has an effective emission radius of 100-180m and an effective emission angle of 180 degrees. Algae cells resonate under the specific frequency of ultrasound, causing the cell membrane to crack and the algae to decay and perish on their own, first floating up and then sinking down. Meanwhile, ultrasound technology can also treat various bacteria, viruses, and all fungi. Many hydroxyl radicals generated by ultrasound have a degrading effect on algal toxins secreted by algae, without causing secondary pollution, and have no harmful effects on other aquatic organisms and humans.
